Bangladesh Press Council

Bangladesh Press Council (BPC) was established in 1979 as a quasi-judicial institution safeguarding the freedom of the press and protecting the individuals and/or institutions from excesses by the media-men. It started functioning since October 1980. Bangladesh Press Council is located at Shegunbagicha, Dhaka. BPC is committed to promote the professional standard of newspapers & news agencies in the country. The Press Council Act of Bangladesh was passed by the Parliament in 1974. Hence, apart from the preserving freedom of press, it also takes lawful action against the newspapers or news agencies, about any complaint(s), under Section 12 of the Press Council Act, 1974. It consists of a Chairman and fourteen (14) other members. The Council organizes workshops and training programs for the persons in the profession of journalism in Bangladesh.
